################################################################ ######## mrcrypt's steganography challenge ######## ######## AN ELEPHANT NAMED WAR ######## ######## by mrcrypt & tric blister ######## ################################################################ a steganography puzzle box based on a political art-zine we did in the mid 00's ######## overview the puzzle consists of a digital image and an origami elephant. each of the three flags is encrypted with a Vigenere Cipher, with the key and cipher somewhere in the the either the image or elephant. ######## STEP ONE separate the three digital images. use binwalk or foremost (or the like) to reveal the other two - you should have the cover (first pic), title page, and an image that looks like the back of the sheet that folds to be the origami elephant (joke instructions). ######## FLAG 01 :::: cds02_cover the hint: "the key to the code is tied around the elephant's legs." the flag is in the barcode of this image. the key is hidden in the folds of the elephant. this one is revealed when folding or unfolding its front legs. there is a star shape on the back of the paper (and the cds02_elephant image). when you get to the point in un/folding where the paper looks like the star, the key should be revealed. use the key to decode the flag and get your points. ######## FLAG 02 :::: cds02_title the hint: "it may be cliche and see-through on the surface, but it is key." the encrypted flag is revealed when looking through the paper to see which numbers/letters are circled. they will be in the order they are when reading the text. the key is hidden in the digital image and revealed by adjusting the image threshold to show certain letters in the Thomas Jefferson quote. use stegsolve or the like, or your favorite image editing software to do this. use the key to decode the flag and get your points. ######## FLAG 03 :::: cds02_elephant the first hint: "There are hints to the key in the elephant's ears, but that just scratches the surface." the second hint: "all there in black and white." this hint was given during the event at the cost of 10 points. the flag is hidden in the black portion of the title area of the digital image, and revealed by adjusting the image threshold. use stegsolve or the like, or your favorite image editing software to do this. the key is hidden in the white area of the digital image, and revealed by adjusting the image threshold, but it's broken up into quadrants. use stegsolve or the like, or your favorite image editing software to do this. you might also see the letters by tilting your lcd/laptop screen. the order to assemble the key correctly are the four numbers in the center of the art on the front of the unfolded elephant. this is the portion of the art that makes the elephant ears when folded. use the key to decode the flag and get your points. ######## EASTER EGG the title of the main html page for this puzzle (b64) decodes to ask the a question which the cipher encryption keys answer. ################################################################ ######## ######## ######## THANK YOU FOR PLAYING ######## ######## ######## ################################################################
